Filmmaking Tips  Keep It Short:  The Rubbermaid Rule (why your videos don't get views and watch time?) W oody Allen's Hall, Winner of the best Pictures Oscars in 1978, tells the story of a complex relationship that takes place over 5 years. It's 87 min. long. That movie trailer you saw last week in the theater- the one where you said, "I hate when they show me the whole movie!" - lasts a maximum of 2 minutes and 30 seconds. Your favourite, very funny Super Bowl TV spot: 30 seconds. Average time spent looking at a web page? Just 15 seconds. Why would you think that a video about your company needs to be 10 min.? If 2 min. of trailer can make you fill with excitement. 1. You won't expand to fill time. "Padding" is just another word for boaring. With a tight time goal, each shot you include will have to complete with every other shot. Only the strong will survive.                                           ( When video is too l

Filmmaking Tips - How to write Script? (Know your Story)

Filmmaking Tips  Know your Story  "We love story. We crave story. We remember story. Every Video, no matter how long or short, will be better if it tells a story."    When some one wants to tell you a story and they start with a words "It's about a...."We pay attention because we instinctively recognise a story is about to start.  If you ask about a movie and your friend starts description with " It has good VFX , the acting was good , that scene was good" This sound like there was no story or person couldn't get the story of a movie. Your story should have 4 elements:  A hero The Beginning The Middle The End 1. A Hero.. This element of your story tell that " Who" that video is about. Make your video on someone or something or some place. Always remember your story should have "Who" the video is for. 2. The Beginning.. It doesn't have to be complicated. In the beginning of any story. We

Filmmaking Tips - Know Your Audience for Your Video to get Viral..

Filmmaking Tips   Know Your Audience    The first audience will be friends and family-the people who come to barbecue. They are interested in how they looked, remembering the events they forgot after the margaritas were served, and maybe sharing that good time with their friends. "Even if you think your video will be great for everyone                              there has to be a subset of 'Everyone'                                                                who will especially like it"   Consider the likely target audience for your video. It's more likely to be a hit if you've thought about the audience and what will make it great for them. Even if you think your video will make it great for them. Even if you think your video will be great for everyone, there has to be subset of "everyone" who will especially like it. Who are they?   Think Before you Shoot:   Who   is your audience, literally?Male?Female? What

Filmmaking Tips - Planning to Shoot (DSLR GUIDE)

Image
Filmmaking Tips     Planning to Shoot    I recently got one project as a director and editor for a video song shoot. The Producer asked me about the story and concept that how to present the song in front of audience. The video will be soon on youtube. When i was discussing about the scene many ideas were put on by team member some  were very good, some were average, some were not as good as demand of song but our main was to think as many ideas as we can, no idea is bad. If you pickup your camera before planning shoot, scene it will become very difficult for you to shoot on set. I want a long list, so I won't judge these ideas as i go. I'm going to write down even the stupidest ideas. In fact,to loosen up, I might be intentionally stupid. Some ideas will come during the shoot and those ideas sometime become the award winning scene. Before shoot and after planning ideas compose ideas in your brain with editing as how your video is going to look like.

Filmmaking Tips - Think Like Director ( Creativity has no Boundaries - think like a legend)

Filmmaking Tips  Creativity has no Boundaries - think like a legend 😍 Brainstorming is my go-to mode when I need ideas for a shoot. It's useful skill that's well worth taking some time. OK! When we try to think creatively,We often say things like " YES YES this scene will be better....Na Na it will suck further, Our brain thinks thinks and thinks a lot of time for just 2 second shot which will be out of the box and leave impact on audience. Thinking is a thing which has no boundaries you can go to any extent at last best thing you get is your creativity level.. Break your Brainstorming (time period of thinking of creativity) into two phases  1. The "Hot" side involves making a long list of ideas without judgement 2. The "Cold" side kicks in as you make choices from the list. 1. Making a List  During this phase, you list as many ideas as you can on a sheet of paper or computer screen,no matter how stupid, wild,or awful they

Filmmaking Tips - Video as a Second Language

Filmmaking Tips  Video as a Second Language   Video is the new language, and most of us are illiterate. It's not that we don't understand video. We've spent years watching movies, television and YouTube. We know how the camera angles should look and,at least unconsciously, what they mean. We know how the stories go,weather the guy and girl belong together, or when the monster will jump out. We understand video better than any humans that have ever lived. Most of us just don't speak it very well. Learning how to make really effective video is like learning to speak a second language: You have to learn not just what you say but how what you say will be received by others.  As told before if it's a bad video it will get turn off. Now most of them thinks that having a equipment lots of camera equipment makes a good video as it's true now a days camera do lots and editing do much more new things it's not true that your video is going to b

Filmmaking Tips - Think like a Director ( No Intent Way to Bad Video)

Filmmaking Tips  ( No Intent Way to Bad Video) Yogi Berra famously said, "You've got to be very careful if you don't know where you're going because you might not get there" Now think about professional Director before they take any project he/she knows why is he/she doing it-her intent. "I want to expose the dangers of global warming to a large audience" is a great intent by his/her video director want to make the audience fear out of global warming. If director is not having any plan any intent as what to do, how to do,how to direct, how to shoot at final step when every shots has been taken it sucks and make director stuck and there is no way to come out of it. Every video needs a clear intent . The intent can be as simple as you are " I want to share my trip to Nanital With Friends" When ever you make a video make sure that you are clear why you are doing this, what impact you want to leave in audience. If you are clea

Filmmaking Tips - Think Like a Director (Entertain or Die)

Filmmaking Tips  Entertain or Die A director's job is to shoot video that people will want to watch. That means thinking about communicating with your audience, about how they will view your video, and what might make it a better experience for them. This fundamental shifts in the way you think will guide you to different----and better----decisions as you shoot, even if you don't do anything else.         SINCE MOST PEOPLE WHO SHOOT VIDEO DON'T THINK ABOUT IT AT ALL, JUST    THINK ABOUT IT AT ALL,JUST GIVING IT YOUR ATTENTION CREATES CHANGE. Your own experience is the as everyone else's. It's painful to watch bad, boring video. Bad Video takes time and noting gives you in return. And like anytime anyone steals from you, you quickly resent it. Weather that resentment causes you to click away ( if you're alone or start to hate your relative /employe/friend ( if they are making you watch), the resentment is real and powerful. Watching video is
